Manglagaur Uddyapan Pooja

Description:

Mangalagaur Uddyapan Puja is a traditional Maharashtrian ritual performed to celebrate the bride’s new married life. Beginning from the first Tuesday of the month of Shravan after marriage, the Shravan Tuesday Puja is observed every Tuesday for the next five years, after which the vow is concluded through the Uddyapan ceremony. The word Mangalagaur symbolizes auspiciousness (mangal) and devotion (gaur).

The pooja includes the following:

2. Applying turmeric, vermilion, and turmeric paste to the bride.

3. Recitation of specific Mangalagaur mantras and devotional songs.

4. Offering flowers, fruits, and sweets to the deities.

5. Family members and women relatives bless the bride for happiness, prosperity, and a harmonious married life.

This ritual is mainly observed by the bride’s maternal family or by the families of both the bride and groom to mark the beginning of marital religious observances.
